If you wish to join The Tasmanian Bar, you should apply in writing to the Secretary with:
- a copy of a current local or interstate practising certificate entitling you to practise exclusively as a barrister; and
- your undertaking that you are not currently and have not been the subject of any disciplinary action as a legal practitioner. If you are unable to give the undertaking, you should provide full details of the action and the determination (if any) of the relevant disciplinary authority.
The Bar Council will consider your application and notify you whether or not it has been approved.
In Tasmania you can apply to the Law Society of Tasmania for a barristers’ practising certificate, which may be subject to conditions relating, amongst other things, to a period of pupillage.
